At the time when Lee was chosen as the first Prime Minister Singapore was a medley of huts, hovels and slums. There was no natural or man-made drainage system. Streets in the city used to get flooded after every rain. People were so used to seeing dirt all around that they felt uncomfortable with cleanliness. They knew how to eat but lacked the desire to work. This is where Lee started and ended up changing everyone’s destiny.
